Choosing an overnight camp for your child is a very serious, and sometimes difficult, decision. You want your child to be cared for, supported, encouraged, and challenged. You also want them to unplug and enjoy the freedom of a summer in the woods, surrounded by friends who become a second family. Camp Green Lane, family-owned and operated since 1926 is the overnight camp near New York that can offer your child these things, and so much more.
No matter if your child thrives on the court, in the water, on the stage or on the side of a rock wall, our diverse program has exactly what they need. Our well-rounded 7-period schedule focuses on choice within structure. Using our considerable camp knowledge and experience, we build a daily 5-period schedule for each bunk, and then let campers choose the other two periods of the day. Clinic period allows campers to focus on an athletic pursuit that they are passionate about and, through skills and drills and game play, deepen their knowledge of the sport. Elective period allows campers to choose an activity around camp that they can work on in their own way at their own speed. New clinics and electives are chosen each week so that campers can try their hand at whatever interests them.
Along with an exciting daily program schedule, we offer a number of incredible special events and out-of-camp trips! Special events include Halloween in July, Carnival, Olympics, the Triathlon, camp shows, Pal Day, and Battle of the Divisions. Out of camp trips take campers bowling, ice skating, to trampoline parks, amusement parks, mini golfing, and to a minor league baseball game. The Greeks, our oldest campers, go on a special two-night trip that campers wait their entire camp career for. These special events and trips help to make us one of the best overnight camps near New York. And who can forget the best week of the entire summer–Color War! We split the camp into green and white teams who battle in sport, song, and spirit to see who will be victorious!
The health and wellbeing of our campers is of the utmost importance to us. Our infirmary is staffed round-the-clock by a doctor, 2 RNs, and a “camp mom”, and Grand View hospital is just 7 miles away if a visit is ever necessary. The talented chefs in our dining hall produce three nutritious and delicious meals daily to ensure that our campers have the energy they need to play through the day. We are a nut-free campus and also offer options for our friends with special diets to ensure that everyone can feel safe eating with us for seven weeks.
Our counseling and supervisory staff are top notch, and spend their days making indelible memories with the campers in their care. Prior to camp, our entire staff attends a five-day orientation so that they know what is expected of them, and how to handle any and all situations that might arise. Each of our 7 division supervisors is a parent and a teacher and is there to act as a surrogate parent to all of their campers. Our supervisors keep in frequent contact with parents via phone and email.
